Ethics and Responsibility
Code of Ethics and Responsibilities
The Ignis Journal requires that all members of its editorial board, authors, and reviewers adhere to this established Code of Ethics.
Ethical Standards for Research and Publication
By adopting and promoting ethical research standards in evaluating submitted texts, the Ignis Journal reaffirms its commitment not only to academic excellence but also to the protection of the rights and well-being of research participants. Our approach ensures ethical compliance and reflects the shared responsibility between authors, reviewers, and editors in fostering an academic environment of integrity and trust. By submitting their work to the journal, authors agree to abide by these ethical standards, emphasizing transparency as a key factor in strengthening the credibility of submitted texts and ensuring the trust of readers, reviewers, and collaborators.
Additionally, we encourage authors to incorporate, whenever possible, additional ethical statements in their manuscripts, providing a comprehensive view of the research practices adopted. These statements may include information about informed consent procedures, data protection measures, and details on ethical approvals received. Below, we outline fundamental ethical considerations that authors should take into account when submitting their texts, particularly in conducting their research.
1) Informed Consent
The Ignis Journal recommends that authors submitting their texts obtain approval from a Research Ethics Committee, through the CAAE system. However, it is mandatory that the manuscript explicitly states how informed consent was obtained from all participants involved in the research, ensuring their proper understanding of the study’s nature and purpose.
a. Protection of Vulnerable Groups
Studies involving vulnerable participants, such as minors, require informed consent from parents or legal guardians.
2) Participant Anonymity
The Ignis Journal reinforces the importance of maintaining the anonymity of research participants whose data contribute to published texts as a fundamental ethical principle. Authors should take measures to ensure confidentiality and protect participant identities.
When submitting manuscripts, authors are encouraged to detail the strategies employed to safeguard anonymity, whether through the removal of identifying information or the use of secure codes linking the data.
3) Alternative Approach – Conscious Participation and Ethical Committee Evaluations
The Ignis Journal acknowledges that ethical research practices extend beyond external committee evaluations. We recognize and value the importance of conscious and agreed-upon participation from individuals involved in published studies.
Therefore, we do not make approval from Research Ethics Committees mandatory. Instead, we encourage authors to provide robust documentation demonstrating how ethical procedures were discussed, agreed upon, and consented to by participants.
If authors choose to submit their research to an Ethics Committee, the Ignis Journal is open to making this information available on its website, reinforcing transparency and recognizing the diversity of ethical approaches that different research contexts may require.
4) Ethical Review
The Ignis Journal reserves the right to request evidence of compliance with ethical procedures for all studies involving human subjects. Editors and/or reviewers may question authors about specific ethical aspects during the review process, including approval by a Research Ethics Committee, data storage procedures, and measures adopted to ensure anonymity.
Handling Misconduct and Error Corrections
In cases of suspected misconduct, the editors will follow the Ignis Journal guidelines, seeking responses from the involved authors and initiating appropriate investigations.
Errors, inaccuracies, or misleading statements should be promptly corrected and clearly highlighted to maintain the integrity of the academic record. If authors fail to provide requested information or do not adequately respond to ethical inquiries, the Ignis Journal reserves the right to reject the manuscript.
Authorship
Authors must submit a declaration outlining the contributions of each co-author to the research and writing process.
A primary author is considered someone who made a substantial intellectual contribution to the research and manuscript preparation. Co-authors must have contributed to at least two of the following aspects: research design and conception, data collection, processing, analysis and interpretation, or writing of manuscript sections.
Originality and Novelty
The submitted manuscript must be unpublished, and the author must ensure that it is not under review by any other journal and has not been previously published.
If the manuscript is derived from a previous work, this information must be clearly stated and explicitly communicated to the editor. All data must be truthful, following established research methodologies.
Plagiarism and data manipulation are not accepted. To prevent such misconduct, editors submit all manuscripts to anti-plagiarism software before sending them for peer review. If plagiarism is detected, authors will be notified, and the text will not proceed to peer review. Additionally, the author will be banned from submitting new manuscripts to the system for two years.
If plagiarism is identified during the publication process, the accepted article will be rejected. If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal will issue a retraction, apologize for the oversight, and remove the work from its database.
Errors and Corrections
Authors are responsible for notifying the Ignis Journal of any errors in their publications so that corrections can be made.
Authors found responsible for errors must submit a retraction letter, clearly explaining the issue and apologizing to the academic community.
Confidentiality
During the peer review process, reviewers must not discuss the manuscript with others to preserve the originality of the submitted work.
Reviewers who violate the double-blind peer review system will be removed from the Ignis Journal’s database.
Editors commit to maintaining confidentiality throughout the evaluation process and will not disclose or reference reviewed works before their official publication.
Conflicts of Interest
To prevent potential conflicts of interest among authors, reviewers, and editors—whether personal, financial, intellectual, professional, political, or religious—such matters are carefully monitored throughout the editorial workflow of the Ignis Journal.
Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest in their submitted manuscripts, whether involving co-authors or public and private entities.
Any financial conflicts, including research funding sources, must be disclosed. The double-blind peer review system ensures transparency and impartiality in manuscript evaluation, minimizing potential conflicts. However, if a reviewer recognizes the author or their affiliated institution, they must inform the editorial team to assess whether impartiality can be maintained in the review process.
For any ethical concerns regarding a potential publication, authors should contact the journal at revistaignis@cbm.sc.gov.br for clarification.
Research Ethics
The Ignis Journal requires that all submitted manuscripts uphold ethical research standards, ensuring respect for human rights throughout both the research process and manuscript preparation.
Authors must be prepared to provide data upon request by reviewers or editors when necessary to verify the validity of analyses.
Throughout the research process, authors must ensure compliance with ethical principles, legal regulations, and agreements established with research participants. Ethical documentation and clarifications may be requested by the Ignis Journal when deemed necessary.

Similarity Detection
All manuscripts submitted to the Ignis Journal undergo similarity detection to identify potential plagiarism.
The journal employs CopySpider software to analyze documents and detect improper copying from previously published materials. If the similarity index exceeds 5% without proper citation, the editorial team will manually review the flagged sections. If plagiarism is confirmed, the author will be notified and provided with detailed reports.
During the editorial process, reviewers and editors may conduct additional plagiarism checks whenever necessary. Manuscripts containing unreferenced copied sections will be rejected and removed from consideration.
