About the Journal

History

The Ignis Journal emerged from the need to consolidate and disseminate the technical-scientific knowledge produced within the Military Fire Department of Santa Catarina (CBMSC). For years, research, operational tests, and academic studies developed by military firefighters remained restricted to internal archives, lacking an institutional platform for publication and sharing. This situation limited access to valuable information that could significantly contribute to the advancement of public safety practices, risk management, and civil defense.

Recognizing this gap, CBMSC, in collaboration with the School of Government, conceived the Ignis Journal, a technical-scientific publication aimed at disseminating specialized knowledge in the fields of military firefighting. The journal was designed to encourage academic production and promote the exchange of experiences and technological innovations applied to both operational and administrative services within the organization.

The first edition of the Ignis Journal was launched with a collection of selected articles from research already conducted within CBMSC, including studies from the University Extension Course in Fire and Explosion Investigation for Officers, held in 2015. From the second edition onward, an open submission process was introduced, allowing both military firefighters and external researchers in the field to submit their studies for evaluation and publication.

With a semiannual periodicity and open-access policy, the Ignis Journal is committed to democratizing technical and scientific knowledge, promoting the dissemination of original research relevant to public safety, the protection of people, and civil defense. In addition to regular editions, the journal features special issues dedicated to the publication of Cadet thesis projects, research conducted in the postgraduate program in Risk Management and Critical Events, and studies resulting from training programs offered by the Military Firefighter Education Center (CEBM).

More than just a publication platform, the Ignis Journal represents a milestone in valuing research applied to military firefighting services, ensuring that innovations, experiments, and reflections generated within the organization can be shared, analyzed, and refined by both the scientific and operational communities.
