Abstract

A humanidade convive com a ocorrência de incêndios florestais desde o início de sua existência, porém nos últimos anos a quantidade e intensidade dos incêndios aumentou de forma significativa, assim como seus efeitos negativos. Os incêndios em vegetação do tipo turfa representam um problema em especial, tendo em vista que emitem gases e materiais particulados em maior quantidade e toxicidade. Apesar disso, as técnicas de prevenção e combate têm evoluído. Este trabalho visa identificar o uso de espumas como intensificadores de supressão dos incêndios florestais, com especial ênfase na toxicidade das espumas mais comuns, além de avaliar as opções de espumas com componentes biodegradáveis que estão em desenvolvimento.
